The tobacco monopoly also includes the import of tobacco

The tobacco monopoly is abolished and the snus cans take on the familiar round shape and are given metal caps

1971
Svenska Tobaks AB becomes a part of Stadsföretag AB. The King of Sweden tries snus

1973
The first portion snus is launched - Smokeless.

1977
Tre Anakre is launched

1982
The metal caps on the cans are replaced with plastic ones. Tobaksbolaget opens a new plant in Göteborg

1984
STA becomes a part of Procordia

1985
STA takes over the Pinkerton Tobacco Company in the USA and launches the drive the for the American market

1992
The European Unions decides on a ban of snus

1995
Sweden becomes a member of the European Union and the snus becomes a permanent exception in the Swedish membership terms

1999
Swedish Match buys Leonard Dingler, a South African manufacturer of tobacco and snus

2001
The warning label ”causes cancer” is removed from the cans. Swedish Match buys the British tobacco manufacturer Premium Tobacco Traders Ltd
