Snus Snuff

Sweden is the world’s largest snuff market measured by per capita consumption. A substantially larger proportion of the male population uses the Swedish type of moist snuff called snus compared to cigarettes. The Norwegian market is smaller than the Swedish market but has in recent years experienced strong volume growth. The US is the world’s largest snuff market measured in number of cans and is approximately six times larger than the Swedish market. In Sweden and Norway, Swedish Match has a leading position. In the US, the Group is well positioned as the third largest player. Some of the best known brands include General, Ettan and Grov in Sweden, and Red Man, Timber Wolf and Longhorn in the US.
But what about about the history of snus? What is it and where does it come from? Find out more at the history section.

Snus has changed radically over the centuries and so has the snus user. But it is not only the snuff itself that has hanged. The snus cans has also changed considerably over the years.
The attitude towards swedish snuff and its place in Sweden’s society has also changed a lot over the last 100 years.
The portion snus has become more and more popular in sweden since it was introduced in the early 1970s. Now its even more popular than loose snus.

Chewing Tobacco

Chewing tobacco is not the same thing as Swedish snus contrary to what many people think. Swedish snus is smokeless just as the chewing tobacco. But one of the great benefits of Swedish snus is that it is spitless. This means that snus is a lot less messy than chewing tobacco. Chewing tobacco is sold primarily in North America, mainly in the southern US. Swedish Match is the leading producer of chewing tobacco in the US. Well known brands include Red Man and Southern Pride. The chewing tobacco segment shows a declining trend over the past few years.
